Centre Information

Session Times and Fees

Headstart is open Monday to Friday, with the day beginning at 8:30am and ending at 3:00pm.  We also run a holiday programme during the school term holidays, and close only for statutory holidays and over the Christmas & New Year period.

There are NO tuition fees to attend Headstart.  Optional charges will apply to opportunities and activities over and above Ministry of Education minimum regulatory guidelines.  For full details please refer to our enrolment page on the website or visit the Springbank School reception.

What to Bring

Children should come to Headstart with a named backpack, lunchbox and drink bottle.  We also recommend packing a spare change of named clothes for your child.  During the warmer months your child will need to bring along a named hat and we ask that you apply sunscreen to your child before they arrive in the morning.  Sunscreen is available for the children and we encourage them to reapply at midday.  If you prefer your own type or brand of sunscreen you are welcome to supply your own, named bottle.

Sick Children

From time to time we understand children can get sick, but we ask that any child who has been unwell needs to be kept away from Headstart until they are no longer contagious and well enough to participate in all play.  Please inform us about any allergies, food intolerances, restrictions or medical needs that your child has, prior to your child starting at Headstart.

Visiting Headstart

If your child is transitioning from Springbank Preschool, there will be many visiting opportunities as part of their transition programme and regular interaction with both the Headstart children and teachers.  For children who are coming from other local preschools we recommend your child comes for at least 2 – 3 visits at Headstart prior to them officially starting. This enables our teachers to get to know your child and show them around the setting, to introduce them to fellow classmates and to familiarise themselves with the daily routines.  Parents/guardians are welcome on all visits and we encourage you to ask any questions you may have, to ensure this new experience is positive and relaxing for everyone.

Your Involvement

At Headstart we love and encourage involvement from parents and we want you to feel welcome at all times.  If you would like to share a special skill or talent with us, or have some resources/information that can enrich our learning, please come and talk with us about it.  At Headstart each child receives their own portfolio, which includes learning stories and photos.  This documents much of your child’s learning and play during their time at Headstart.  We invite families to regularly look at these portfolios and contribute to them with your own words or pictures any time.  Throughout the Headstart classroom, artwork, workbooks and wall displays will showcase just some of the wonderful learning and creativity your child will take part in.  Please take the time to look around.  Also, check our notice boards for any information or upcoming activities.
